The source point is near Medigadda Village, below the point of confluence of Pranahitha river with Godavari River, about 20 km from Kaleshwaram. Central Water Commission (CWC) has assessed the availability of 282 TMC of water at Medigadda site. Out of which, about 180 TMC is proposed to be lifted for the Kaleshwaram project. The overall water availability for the project- including the yield from tanks, utilizable groundwater and additional water availability at Yellampally barrage - works out to be about 225 TMC. The project is formulated & designed after careful planning and realistic approach.

7397 The low lying areas of Palghar district are susceptible to flash floods during the monsoons and during varying tides as sea water comes in through the creek. This has caused a decline in the lands productivity and the economic status of the residents of the area as they are unable to practice agriculture and aquaculture as a means of livelihood due to the increased salinity of the soil. The Kharland Development Circle (KLDC) has taken up the work of building these saline embankments under the permission of the Coastal zone regulation to prevent degradation of the land due to increased salinity and to protect the residents of the area from floods that destroy their produce. These structures mitigate the damage caused by the regular inflow of sea water and ease in the production of reservoirs which help in aquaculture.
