The work shall be executed in the following steps:(a) Step 1 (Marking and Cutting) :- Mark the damaged / spalled area in a regular shape (square or rectangular) and cut the edges to a depth of at least 10–15 mm using a chisel or mechanical cutter to expose sound concrete and reinforcement, avoiding feather edges.(b) Step 2 (Removal and Cleaning):- Remove all loose, delaminated, and unsound concrete. Clean the surface thoroughly using wire brushes, compressed air, or water jet to remove dust, laitance, and loose particles.(c) Step 3 (Cleaning of Reinforcement):- Expose the corroded reinforcement fully. Clean the steel thoroughly by mechanical wire brushing, rust remover, or other approved means to remove all scales and corrosion.(d) Step 4 (Application of Rust Remover):- Apply rust remover chemical to the cleaned reinforcement bars using a brushand allow it to react as per manufacturer’s instructions.(e) Step 5 (Zinc Rich Primer on Reinforcement):- After cleaning with water and drying, apply one coat of zinc-rich primer tothe reinforcement bars to prevent further corrosion. Allow adequate drying as per manufacturer’s recommendations.(f) Step 6 (Bonding Coat):- Apply a bonding coat of approved bonding agent (e.g., polymer latex / epoxy bonding agent) on the prepared concrete surface. The repair mortar shall be applied while the bonding coat is still tacky.(g) Step 7 (Application of Repair Mortar) : Rebuild the damaged area with polymer-modified repair mortar (pre-packed, non-shrink, approved brand) or micro-concrete for larger or deeper repairs, restoring the original profile and level.(h) Step 8 (Fixing of Chicken Mesh) : Provide and fix chicken wire mesh (12.5 mm × 22 SWG, hexagonal type) over the affected area, fixed with nails or screws at suitable spacing to ensure proper anchorage with the surface.contd.... |
