scientific cleaning and sterilization of water storage tanks of govt. medical college hospital jammu-scientific cleaning and sterilization of water storage tanks of gmch jammu by way of 6 stage cleaning process: mechanical de-watering, hi-pressure cleaning, sludge removal, vacuum cleaning ,anti bacterial spray and finally killing of suspended and floating bacteria by ultra violet radiation as detailed below:1.mechanized dewatering:-the water from storage tanks shall be pumped out of the tanks through mechanical dewatering pumps of suitable capacity.2.exterior cleaning and sludge removal:-the roof top, the manholes and the exterior walls of the storage tanks shall be cleaned thoroughly for any traces of dirt ,mud and algae present in the close vicinity.3.high pressure interior cleaning:- the interior of the water storage tanks shall be cleaned with high pressure jet which dislodges the layers of the dirt and other suspended foreign bodies which may be sticking on the walls.this process removes the layers of calcinations of dirt if any so as to make the interiorsfree of any germs and bacteria. the interiors include the floors and the top walls of the tanks.4. sludge cleaning/ vacuum cleaning:-the dirty water and sludge collected in the previous operation shall be removed using industrial sludge pumps and disposed off properly,away to safer place so as not to contaminate water.the floor of the water storage tanks shall again be cleaned thoroughly using high pressure jet system so as to remove all the remaining dirt which may be sticking to the floor.the water storage tanks shall be then dried using industrial vaccum cleaners ofsuitable capacity.5.antibacterial spray:-the inside walls,ceilings and floor of water storage tanks are given the anti-bacterial treatment which would ensure all interior walls,ceilings and floors of the water storage tanks totally germ free.the anti-bacterial agent shall be non-toxic,biodegradable and eco-friendly to disinfect tanks from all harmful pathogens.6. sterlization using ultra violet radiation:-finally uv radiations are used to ensure the complete wipe out any suspended or floating bacteria remaining in the tank.complete job includes cost of material, hire charges of tools and tackles, labour charges (both skilled & unskilled) and all taxes etc.water storage tanks to be cleaned : 1.main storage tank at basement-3,71,861ltrs,2.fire tank at basement-3,72,410ltrs,3.roof top e-block-7,56,014 ltrs,4.nursing roof top tank-37,334 ltrs,5.soft water tank e-block roof top-2,79,695 ltrs,6.roof top b-block opd tank-1-30,000 ltrs, 7.roof top opd tank-30,000 ltrs, 8.roof top d-block-44,875 ltrs,9.roof top c-block-3,44,760 ltrs,10.roof top b-block emergency-33,266 ltrs,11.roof top of staff qtrs.-7,50,000 ltrs12.100 bedded roof top-a. 28,000 ltrs (for drinking and bathroom) b. 20,000 ltrs (for fire)13. 100 bedded underground- 40,000 ltrstotal capacity of water storage tanks= 31,38,215ltrssay 3138.00 kl
