The low lying areas of Palghar district are susceptible to flash floods during the monsoons and during varying tides as sea water comes in through the creek. This has caused a decline in the lands productivity and the economic status of the residents of the area as they are unable to practice agriculture and aquaculture as a means of livelihood due to the increased salinity of the soil. The Kharland Development Circle (KLDC) has taken up the work of building these saline embankments under the permission of the Coastal zone regulation to prevent degradation of the land due to increased salinity and to protect the residents of the area from floods that destroy their produce. These structures mitigate the damage caused by the regular inflow of sea water and ease in the production of reservoirs which help in aquaculture.
