Reliance Defence Ltd, a subsidiary of Reliance Infrastructure Ltd, has received approval for 12 industrial licences from the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) to make defence equipment.
In a media statement, the company said DIPP has given licences to the Strategic Business Units under Reliance Defence, which will address the defence requirements in India and overseas markets.
With licences in hand for the manufacture of military aircraft and helicopters, the company is looking to bag Rs.9,000-crore orders from the Navy for amphibious aircraft. It will also look at making light utility helicopters under a Rs.20,000-crore order.
There is also a requirement for 160-200 medium to heavy helicopter, which is a Rs.50,000-crore opportunity. The transport and the combat aircraft requirements of the Air Force in the next 10 years will be in excess of Rs.60,000 crore, the statement.
In land systems, Reliance has got licences to make missiles and all-terrain combat vehicles. The key programmes in these segments include short, medium and long range missile systems, which will cost Rs.50,000 crore. The Army will also spend an additional Rs.50,000 crore over 10-15 years on different types of combat vehicles.
