Buoyed by a 50 per cent growth in data revenues in 2015 and a 200 per cent increase in 3G users, Aircel will set up 150 3G-enabled towers by March 2016 across West Bengal (apart from Kolkata).
These will come up in addition to its 3,000-odd existing sites. The network expansion will help 3G users enjoy a maximum speed of 21 Mbps.
In telecom parlance, Kolkata and the rest of West Bengal are considered as separate circles (in terms of operations).
According to Anand Prakash, Business Head, Rest of West Bengal, Aircel, there has been a “significant growth” in the number of 3G users.
“Data has made significant contribution to our gross revenue on month-on-month basis largely driven by rise in 3G users,” he said as per a release issued by Aircel.
The telco is also planning to have 503 more Aircel Sewa Kendras (for activation of new connections and other services, recharges and plan / tariff changes) in the first phase in West Bengal.
