Electronic auctions for grant of mining lease for non-coal minerals is expected to take place early next year with eight limestone mines in Gujarat and Rajasthan on offer.
The process of auctions began this week with the sale of tender documents.
If there are no further delays, the eight mines will be the first to be auctioned under the provisions of the amended Mines & Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, nearly a year after the amendments were cleared by the Parliament.
Tender documents for five limestone mines in Gujarat and three in Rajasthan are on sale on the MSTC website, with the last date for submission of technical bids and an initial price offer being early January.
MSTC is a public sector enterprise and provides a platform for several electronic auctions including the Coal Ministry’s coal mine auctions.
For the mines in Gujarat, the tender documents will be on sale till December 7, while for those in Rajasthan they will be on sale till December 2.
After the MMDR Act was cleared on January 12, 2015, grant of all mining leases in the country are required to be auctioned.
While a lot of the methodologies for auctioning the mining leases have been borrowed from the coal mine e-auctions, the key difference for non-coal minerals is that the auctions will be conducted by the State governments.
