Luxury car maker Mercedes Benz India on Monday announced investment of Rs 1,000 crore for expansion at its Chakan facility, Pune district. The company's newly appointed managing director Roland Folger revealed the investment plan during his meeting with the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Mercedes Benz India's total investment as on date at the facility stands at Rs 1,000 crore since its inception in 1994. A release issued by the chief minister's office (CMO) said Fadnavis has assured Folger and the outgoing MD Eberhard Kern that the government will provide necessary approvals at the earliest for the company's proposed investment.
Today's announcement comes close on the heels of opening of Mercedez Benz India's new manufacturing facility inaugurated by Fadnavis at Chakan in June this year. It has augmented the company's production capacity to 20,000 units annually, making it the largest installed production capacity for any luxury car maker in India.
The company's pofrfolio of locally produced models include C, E, S, M, GL, GLA, CLA and Mercedes Maybach S500.
