SJVN to set up 6,535 MW of capacity till 2021-22
SJVN Ltd, the hydro-power generation company promoted by the Central Government, said it plans to set up 6,535 MW of capacity till 2021-22. The company's Chairman and Managing Director RN Misra said for this the company would invest close to Rs. 40,000 crore. The projects will have an average tariff of about Rs. 4-5.5 a unit, Misra added. Asked whether the company needs to raise funds for such an investment programme, Misra said, "For at least 2-3 years we don't need to go for any fund raising. Our financial health is good. We have cash reserves of Rs. 3,800 crore while our networth is Rs. 10,400 crore. Our current projects are generating a profit of Rs. 600-700 crore annually." On the issue of state distribution utilities, Misra said the company is able to sell the power it generates. "We have some outstanding amount from distribution utilities but it is not much of a concern," he said. The total outstanding dues of distribution utilities to SJVN is Rs. 1,132 crore which is owed by Himachal Pradesh's state distribution utilities, BSES Rajdhani, BSES Yamuna and Uttar Pradesh. Of this, Himachal Pradesh's utilities have the largest outstanding amount of Rs. 595 crore.
