Gulf Petrochem will set up a Rs 1,000-crore ethanol manufacturing plant in India. India needs over 115 crore litres of ethanol to meet its target of 5% blending. But Indian units produce only 80 crore litres, creating a big demand for the product.Ethanol manufacturers, mostly sugar makers who use molasses as raw material, say state levies and the price fixed by the Centre Rs 48.50 a litre is a deterrent to capacity expansion. Gulf Petrochem wants to enter the ethanol market with a manufacturing unit that would produce around 60,000 kilolitres of ethanol by 2017-18. Gulf Petrochem Group is a company operating in the downstream and midstream sectors of the oil and energy industry
