The plant would be constructed as part of the Madurai Corporation's efforts to revive the Manalur Drinking Water Project at a cost of Rs 16.40 crore. The project includes construction of treatment plants and changing of worn out pipelines. It comprises the replacement of 350 mm iron pipes from Thirupuvanam - Manalur Pumping Station with plastic pipes, construct treatment plants and renovate pumping stations and replacement of 450 mm iron pipes with plastic pipes from Manalur to Teppakulam and it will take place
