The power department took one more step to reduce power failures in Goa by sanctioning an estimate of Rs 12 crore for replacement of aged electrical parts at all the 33KV sub-stations in Goa.
Electricity department officials told STOI that the works advisory board headed by the chief secretary has sanctioned the project that will be tendered by the end of this month.
Under the project, the department will replace parts which are over 25 years old at all the 50-odd 33KV/11KV sub-stations in Goa. The parts include circuit breakers, isolators, lightning arrestors, battery chargers, earthing equipment etc.
Sources said that repairing these aged parts is very time-consuming and procuring them is also difficult.
This revamp of the sub-station is not only expected to reduce the power failures in the state, but also improve the department's revenues.
The move to carry out the 12 crore revamp comes at a time when the department has received much flak for the frequent power failures all over the state.
