Dhananjay Mahadik has proposed a plan to construct ring roads along the city's periphery to contain traffic chaos caused due to the movement of heavy vehicles.
Mahadik's suggestion came in his very first meeting held on Monday with Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) officials, after winning the Lok Sabha elections. He had promised a number of measures to tackle issues faced by the city with a population of around 5.5 lakh during his campaign.
"The city is rapidly urbanizing and so problems such as traffic chaos, inadequate facilities for garbage disposal and unplanned growth arise. There should be roads along the periphery for better traffic management. The KMC should prepare a report on this and I will bring funds from the central government," Mahadik said.
