A global tender for the construction of the new greenfield airport at Mopa will be floated by the end of July, chief minister Manohar Parrikar said on Friday. The airport will be constructed on a public private partnership (PPP) model.
The state has acquired 74 lakh sq metres of land for the airport in Pernem taluka. "The tender should come within 60 days from the date the Union government is sworn in," Parrikar told. He said he is planning to target 6 million tourists by year 2016.
Parrikar said his government will focus on getting more starred hotels in the state in the next six months. In the next three months he hopes to see the commencement of the construction of three to four big resorts in the state. "The state government will stress on tourism, non-polluting industries and on an educational hub in the next few months," he said.
