Union ministry of forests and environment has accorded environmental clearance for the much awaited proposed extension project of the Barauni Thermal Power station (BTPS) (250x2 MW), paving way for starting work on construction of the plant. The matter was pending before the ministry since October last.
Since the Rs 3,666 crore project will be fully state-owned, the entire power generated by the plant will be available to Bihar.
In a recent communication to the Bihar State Power Generating Company Limited (BSPGCL), a Union ministry official said, "Environmental clearance shall be valid for five years from the date of issue of this letter to start operations by the power plant."
