Suez Environnement Co. (SEV), Europe’s second-biggest water company, won contracts valued at 61 million euros ($84 million) to build drinking and wastewater treatment plants and manage distribution in three Indian cities. Suez will help improve water distribution for 12.5 million people in Mumbai, India’s most-populous city, the utility said today in an e-mail. A five-year, 31 million-euro deal requires the company to ensure 24-hour supply and cut water leaks. The French utility’s India arm Degremont also won two contracts valued at a combined 30 million euros to build drinking water and wastewater treatment plants in the cities of Pune and Bangalore, it said. Degremont will build a drinking water plant for 2.5 million residents in Pune, near Mumbai. The contract, awarded under India’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, requires the company to build the plant within 30 months and manage it for five years.
