The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with railway ministry to lay down the targets for various important activities of DFC projects for the current fiscal.
The MoU will also ensure timely release of adequate funds for execution of the project, land acquisition and continuance of full assistance by the Ministry in deputing Railway officials on tenure basis to work in DFCCIL.
The MoU was signed last week, a senior DFCC official said. The DFCCIL, a special purpose vehicle, is constructing a 3300km-long eastern and western freight corridors exclusively for movement of goods trains.
The 1839 km-long Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor will run through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal, while the 1499 km-long Western Dedicated Freight Corridor will run from Dadri (Uttar Pradesh) to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (Mumbai), passing through Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
The two corridors will contribute in a great manner in the economic development of the states through which they pass as well as ease traffic load on existing Indian Railways network.
Core sectors like power houses, fertiliser, foodgrains will be benefited by this infrastructure.
