The Ministry of Environment and Forest (MOEF) has given its nod to DCW's expansion project for Trichloroethylene and Poly Vinyl Chloride. The company also plans to expand its captive plant power generation capacity to 108.27 MW from the current 58.27 MW.
The projects will attract investment to tune of Rs 500 crore.
The approval was given on February 24 by the ministry for the expansion project, which includes expanding Trichloroethylene to 15,480 MTPA from 7,200 MTPA and Poly Vinyl Chloride to 1.50 lakh MTPA from 90,000 MTPA.
The expansion project will be taken up at the company's facility located at Thoothukudi district on the Southern tip of Tamil Nadu.
According to the Ministry's document, calcium carbide will be imported from China, Vinyl chloride monomer will be imported from Singapore, PVS Resin and Chlorine will be manufactured in house and coal will be imported from Indonesia.
DCW Ltd (formally Dhrangadhra Chemical Works Limited), is controlled by the renowned Sahu Jain family.
According to company's 2012-13 annual report, the company has signed Technology License agreement with Arkema of France for putting up Chlorinated Poly Vinyl Chloride (C-PVC) Plant at its Sahupuram Facility, in Tamil Nadu. The UHDE India Ltd will do detailed engineering for the project. This project is estimated to take 12-15 months for implementation.
