Experts whom Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) plans to rope in to execute the suspension bridge project at Kamatibaug will visit the city on Thursday. While the bridge has been designed by city-based architects, VMC has decided to rope in experts from outside to execute the project as the structure is very unique.
The suspension bridge is coming up at the place where a similar bridge collapsed in 1964. It was at the insistence of local users of the garden that the project was considered. The VMC is expecting to add an attraction to the garden and also reduce the distance between two parts of the garden for visitors.
Gurdev Singh, Dean of the School of Environmental Design and Architecture of Navrachana University, had made the asymmetrical design that is suspended only from one end and one would have to loop around the pole to which the cables were attacked to reach the span of the bridge. The spiraling structure at one end will ensure that the person climbing it gets a view of the garden from all the angles. tnn
The VMC decided to rope in L&T Ltd for execution of the project. A Chennai-based expert from the company is expected to visit the site on Thursday along with engineers of the company from Vadodara. The team is then expected to hold meetings with VMC officials and architects including Singh who designed the project..
