The EGIS group, a French engineering group involved in the areas of infrastructure and transport systems, planning, water and environment, has been awarded with the tender to create a feasibility report for the Bengaluru-Mumbai economic corridor planned as an anchor of the UK-India partnership.
"The terms of reference were issued and invitations for tenders were called. We have now commissioned a study to get details on what are the requirements. The study will be ready in a year and then only will we decide on the nature of investments," said Kumar Iyer, British deputy high commissioner, Western India and director general, India – UK trade and investment.
The project aims at creating advantages of industrial development, which will build linkages that will provide a better access to production units and reduce transportation time and other expenses. The corridor will start from Bangalore, passing through Tumkur, Chitradurga, Hubli, Dharwad and Belgaum in Karnataka, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Karad and Pune and end at Mumbai in Maharashtra.
UK will also look at investing in more infrastructure projects, according to Iyer. "There are several projects that are being planned and we are looking at infrastructure funds on infrastructure projects all over the country," he said.
