Chief minister Manohar Parrikar laid the foundation stone for the sewerage system for Campal area in Panaji. The project that will cover around 2,000 households, is estimated to cost around 4.5 crore. Sources in the PWD said that the sewerage system covers the area behind the Maruti showroom at Campal. This area was not covered by the Panaji sewerage system and the small project therefore completes Panaji's sewerage network. At the function, the chief minister assured that his government would complete whatever projects he has initiated for the capital city of Goa. He complimented the ward corporator Kabir Pinto Makhija for pursuing the sewerage project. Parrikar also stated that the Campal residents would get a football ground and not a stadium. He also reiterated his assurance of setting up garbage treatment plant and solving the garbage imbroglio. Sources said the system involves laying of a pipeline for about two kilometers. The sewerage system will proceed through St Inez and will culminate at the sewerage treatment plant at Tonca. There is however only one pumping station on the route. Work has begun and the project is expected to be completed within 300 days.
