The government today cleared the Rs 6,284.20 crore 6-laning project of Eastern Peripheral Expressway to accelerate development in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and ease traffic in the National Capital.
The expressway connects National Highways of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, bypassing Delhi.
The government has approved the project to be implemented on the Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT-Annuity) in Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) pattern, an official statement said.
The Rs 6,284.20 crore estimate includes the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre- construction activities.
The total length of the road will be approximately 135 km, the statement said, after the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) cleared the proposal.
The project will expedite improvement of infrastructure in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, it said, adding that the development of this stretch will also help in uplifting the socio-economic condition of this region.
The project covers the districts of Sonepat, Faridabad and Palwal in Haryana and Baghpat, Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh.
Implementation of this project will free Delhi roads of huge volume of trucks and buses that pass through the capital everyday, and help reduce pollution levels in the city, the statement said.
