In a step towards developing the ambitious Rs 100 crore Riverfront Development Project, Noida Authority has appointed Central Water & Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune, to do the groundwork for it. The consultant will carry out a detailed survey and hydraulic studies of the area to determine the location of the green corridor.
Officials said a proposal to shift the existing Hindon riverfront by about 500m to the left towards Greater Noida (west) has been planned for the green lung.
"The proposed shift of the riverfront, the exact location, its height and width will be studied by CWPRS before being implemented. CWPRS is a major research organization in the field of hydraulic and allied research as a subordinate office of the ministry of water resources," said HN Singh, in-charge of the Authority's work circle-6.
"The agency will also study the river flow, strength of currents, etc. For the survey and study of the project, about Rs 25 lakh has been approved and will be sanctioned soon. The survey should be completed within the next two months," he added.
Officials said the green corridor has been proposed across 600 acres on the Noida to Greater Noida (west) road near Sector 122. In the first phase, about 200 acres -100 acres on each side of the road - will be acquired and converted into the riverfront area. A budget of Rs 100 crore has been allocated for the proposed green zone after the project received a go ahead by the Noida board in May last year.
The UP irrigation department has also given its nod for the project, officials said.
"We have also asked irrigation department officials to free land from encroachers so development work can begin as soon as the survey and studies are completed," said Singh
