The $4.7 billion Harman International of the U.S., which makes a range of infotainment and audio solutions for customers across varied segments, is building a greenfield venture in India.
The project is fast coming up at Pune.
The wholly-owned venture will assemble car infotainment systems for domestic car makers.
The Indian facility is expected to go on stream latest by June.
The mechanical part needs of the plant will be sourced from the domestic market. Harman, however, will import electronic components.
In a free-wheeling chat with this correspondent, M. Lakshminarayan, Managing Director, Harman India, said the U.S.-based company had invested around Rs.20 crore in the venture. The Pune facility would employ around 100 people, he added. Around 30 of them were already undergoing training, he said.
Fielding a range of questions, he said the company could consider, at an appropriate time, manufacturing lifestyle products at the plant. That would, however, depend on how the markets evolved, he added.
