Recently, the minister of state for railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who was in Puri, too asserted that the project would be commissioned before Nabakalebar. "Delang-Puri doubling is our priority. We would leave no stone unturned to ensure that the project is completed before March, 2015," Chowdhury had told media persons.
On September 27, chief minister Naveen Patnaik drew the attention of railway minister Mallikarjun Kharge, seeking completion of Delang-Puri line doubling work before the festival. Naveen had also sought budgetary provision for Khurda Road by-pass line to meet the Nabakalebar rush in 2015.
"Though the East Coast Railway recently submitted a Rs 16.87 crore proposal to construct the by-pass line of 1.3 km, the project has not been approved by the ministry," Naveen had written to Kharge. "The by-pass is imperative as a large number of trains will run to Puri to facilitate passenger movement during that time," Naveen had said.
Out of the 44-km-long Delang-Puri doubling project, a stretch of 15-km has been commissioned between Khurda Road to Delang, railway sources said. "Out of 29 minor bridges on Delanga-Sakhigopal section, 26 bridges have been completed and work is in on the other three bridges. All the bridges will be completed by December, 2014," the officer said.
