Officials of National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) held a meeting on Saturday to discuss the ring road project and other works for the city. The meeting follows a proposal sent by VMC to the minister of state of road transport and highways Dr Tushar Chaudhari.
The possibility of NHAI making the road was being explored after Chaudhari recently made an announcement in the city that he would be keen to help VMC if its officials came up with a proposal for a road. Earlier this month, a delegation from VMC visited Delhi and submitted a proposal to Chaudhari.
VMC mayor Bharat Shah stated that NHAI officials visited various locations in the city to see sites where NHAI could work. Besides the ring road, the VMC is seeking NHAI help for connections from the city to the highway. The issue of waterlogging in the eastern parts of the city due to the national highway was also discussed at the meeting.
NHAI officials have asked VMC to send a detailed proposal regarding the works that need to be done. NHAI officials told VMC functionaries that a consultant would then be appointed to conduct a survey and prepare a detailed report. A final decision will be taken after this.
