The Bhadra pedestrainization project has inched forward. On Monday, the standing committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has finally on its agenda the much-awaited construction of the foot over bridge that goes from Lal Darwaza bus stand and pass the Bhadra courts to link to the Sabarmati riverfront. The AMC will submit a fresh DPR for multi-level parking at Lal Darwaza bus stop and the foot over bridge. The committee would give an in principle approval for the project.
The second phase of the project will involve construction of a multi-level parking complex on the ground floor, shops on the first floor, and a municipal office on floors above the market.
The Bhadra plaza redevelopment will be delayed till June 2014. The reasons are multifold. Firstly, AMC is now involved in relocating hundreds of hawkers who occupy a large part of the Bhadra complex.
The existing Lal Darwaza AMTS bus stop is likely to be shifted to home guard grounds on a temporary basis and the area behind Ritz.
Another major issue cited by officials is that Premabhai Hall is yet to be acquired by AMC. The file for acquisition is pending state government approval. In addition, buried and overhead electric lines have to be shifted.
