Delhis buses could finally go hi-tech. Delhi Transport Corporation has hired a consultant for the electronic ticketing machine project. DTC spokesman R S Minhas said, "The project consultant is UTITSL. In the first six months, the consultant will undertake the bid processing management and, in the next six months, it will do project implementation, monitoring and support." The DTC board has approved hiring the consultant, with work on the project scheduled to begin this month.
The project, which was first mooted in 2010, is expected to plug the holes in DTCs existing revenue collection system, as well as be the first step towards an automated fare collection system that would include Delhi Metro and other forms public transport. The ETM project was supposed to be helmed by DIMTS (Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit System), which manages the bus rapid transit corridor. The project couldnt take off earlier due to a disagreement over the revenue sharing process between DIMTS and DTC.
