As Part Of Development Plans For Areas Surrounding The Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, Tamil Nadu Government Today Proposed A Rs 68.10 Crore Integrated Drinking Water Scheme, Aimed At Benefiting 13 Village Panchayats. The Scheme Will Be Based On Water From River Tamirabarani And Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Has Also Granted Administrative Approval For Rs 87 Lakh As Annual Maintenance Towards The Project, A Government Release Here Said. The Proposal Will Benefit 100 Rural Colonies In 13 Village Panchayats Including Kudankulam Where 55 Litres Of Water A Day Per Person Will Be Ensured, The Release Said. In 2012, Government Had Announced A Rs 500 Crore Assistance Package For Social Development Of Areas In And Around Kudankulam Which Has Been Witnessing Protest Against The Indo-Russian Joint Venture Nuclear Power Project.
