The government has fixed a target of setting up 500 new Kendriya Vidyalayas under the twelfth five year plan. HRD minister M M Pallam Raju said, The 12th plan (2012-17) has a target for opening 500 new KVs during the plan period. Actual sanction and opening of each new KV depends on availability of funds,". 133 proposals for opening new KVs had been received from 23 state governments during the last three years.
