In Order To Address Housing Shortage In The State Gujarat, Government Plans To Build 22 Lakh Flats In The Urban Areas Over The Next Five Years. The State Government Has Prepared A Housing Policy For Urban Areas. The Policy Has Two Sub-Policies On Slum Rehabilitation And Affordable Housing In The Cities. Out Of 22lakh Flats, 7 Lakh Are Meant For Rehabilitation Of Slum Dwellers. The Government Would Allot The Remaining House For Various Other Categories Like Economically Weaker Section, Low Income Group And Middle Income Group. It Has Decided To Keep Other Two Categories Of Middle Income Group-2 And High Income Group On The Back Burner For The Time Being. Expected Amount On Construction And Basic Amenities Of Houses Meant For Relocation Of Slum Dwellers And EW Economically Weaker Section Is Rs. 3.50 Lakh. These Houses Will Be Of 25 Sq. Meters Each. The Construction Cost Of Low Income Group Houses Spread Over A Area Of Around 50 Sq. Meters Has Been Worked At Around 2000 Per Sq. Meters.
