Kamarajar Port Limited Is In Plan For Obtained Environmental Clearance (Ec) For The Phase Ii Expansion Of The Port From Moefcc, New Delhi Vide’ Letter Dated 19th May 2006. The Ec Included A Coal Handling Terminal To Handle 8 Mtpa. The Terminal Facility Comprises Berth Of 347.5 M In Length And Corresponding Depth Along The Berth -18 M Cd, Turning Basin -18.5 M Cd And Outer & Inner Channel About -20 M And -19 M Cd. The Berth Is Capable To Handle Cape Size Vessels Up To 1,50,000 Dwt. As The Terminal Facility Is Capable Of Handling Cape Size Vessels, Hence, With The Decrease In Ship Calls, The Pre And Post Berthing Times (About 6 Hour/Ship Call) Would Be Gainfully Utilised Propelling High Cargo Output From The Terminal. The Capacity Optimisation Shall Be Achieved By Handling Higher Capacity Vessels Of Cape Size And Faster Cargo Despatch Through The Rakes Mostly And Less By Road.This Optimisation Of The Terminal Capacity With The Same Water Front, Equipments & Stock Yard
