The sand shall have minimum 95% silica content, suitable hardness, and shall be approved after sieve analysis and laboratory testing before use. The filter sand shall be laid over the graded gravel support layer in the filter bed after ensuring that the gravel surface is properly levelled and free from loose particles. The sand shall be placed carefully in layers to avoid disturbance or mixing with the supporting gravel.
