Heavy solid waste settle to the bottom of the septic tank (known as sludge). The liquid wastes are also held in the septic tank while bacteria break down solids into liquids in an anaerobic environment, process is known as primary treatment certain bacterias and viruses are adsorbed into solid particles and held in the sludge or scum layers, allowing for limited removal of disease causing organisms at the stage. All that has to be done for fitting the tank is to fill the tank with water, connect the drain line to the inlet and outlet to the soak pit.
