| 6 | Surface Preparation:Concrete surfaces onto which the Expoband One is to be laid must be sound, frost and dust free. New concrete must be fully cured and free from curing compound. The concrete surface ideally should be wood float finished for the width of Expoband One and free from irregularities, with well deigned arises and no vertical misalignment between each side of the joint. Prepare a suitable width of substrate 50mm wider than the membrane width selected. Sharp arises should be ground down pencil round. Remove all dirt, dust and laitance by rigorous wire brushing needle gun, abrasive blasting or grinding. Any spalling or honeycombing must be repaired prior to the application of the Expoband One systemsystem |
| 7 | Providing and applying Nitobond PC40 thixotropic epoxy adhesive is a 2-pack solvent free epoxy resin system consisting of a off white base and black hardener in pre weighed quantities for easy onsite mixing. The base and hardener into a suitable container shall be emptied and mixed with a paddle and slow speed heavy duty drill, ensuring the sides are scraped down. A uniform grey colour should be obtained after mixing thoroughly. The mixed adhesive is applied to both surfaces to be bonded with a serrated trowel or other suitable spreader. The joint should be closed immediately, if this is not achieved the surface of the adhesive should be slightly scratched immediately prior to closing the joint to expose fresh adhesive. The joint must be closed within the open time of the adhesive. On site monitoring of the operation using lapped asbestos cement panels is recommended. Providing and applying Expoband One which is a non-reinforced Hypalon membrane incorporating a central release tape, available in 1mm thickness and width of 200mm. The membrane is supplied in a 20-meter roll. Adhesive shall be applied on substrate and Expoband one then Expoband One shall be laid on tacky adhesive and shall be left for 14 days for curing |
| 8 | Aluminium Plate Fixing: Providing and applying minimum 2mm thick metal plate over FPO covering entire width & length of the FPO membrane & extending minimum 20mm extra cover where expansion joint is subjected to heavy traffic movement. Metal plate shall be anchored to concrete on one side with HD fasteners @ 150mm C/C & free to accommodate movement on the other side. Terminate the Membrane on the top of parapet by cutting the groove of size 20mmx15mm and fix it by using 1.5mm thick 20mm X 15mm wide aluminium strip and Fastener.
