| 2 | Note: (a) Only one number of Rapid Gravity Filter Bed is to be taken for overhauling at a time and the same will be done as per instructions and as directed by Engineer-in-Charge. | 5 | Supply and filling of filter media comprising of graded gravel of particle size 25mm-40mm, in accordance with IS: 8419 Part-I, hard and preferably rounded with specific gravity not less than 2.5, free from clay, sand, loam and organic impurities of any kind, Filter gravel shall not contain more than 2 percent by mass of thin, flat or elongated pieces (in which the largest dimension exceeds three times the smallest dimension) determined by hand picking. Gravel should be free from excessive amount of limestone or shells and acid solubility determined in accordance with procedure given in Appendix B of IS: 8419 (Part-I)-1977 and should be within limits as specified in IS (not more than 10.00 % for gravel sizes 10mm or larger and 5.00% solubility for gravel sizes smaller than 10mm) complete all as specified and directed. |

| 9 | Supplying and filling filter media comprising of filter sand consist of hard, durable grains of silica of particle size 1mm-2mm, in accordance with IS: 8419 Part-I, specific gravity not less than 2.5, uniformity coefficient less than 1.5, All grains of sand shall preferably be water worn. Silica content tested in accordance with IS: 2000, any sample of filter sand shall not contain more than 5 percent by volume of impurities, such as clay, loam, silt etc. in one hour settlement after shaking in water in accordance with procedure described in IS: 8419 (Part-I)-1977. The sand shall not contain more than 5 percent of acid soluble matter as determined by solubility test described in IS. The loss on ignition, which is a measure of the organic matter present in sand, and determined by the procedure given in Appendix C ofin IS, complete all as specified and directed. |
