45TIME OF FLIGHT DIFRACTION TESTING (TOFD) TOFD AT GWA/LWA/SWA AT WELD LOCATIONS of pipeline ranging from 12 inch to 36 inch. TOFD is an ultrasonic examination technique that can provide improved detection and sizing capabilities of discontinuities compared to standard ultrasonic pulse-echo techniques. It uses forward scattered tip diffraction and reflection of transmitted ultrasonic pulse. In addition to a stand-alone ultrasonic detection technique TOFD may be used to improve sizing estimates of flaws detected by the manual or mechanized pulse-echo techniques and help discriminate between flaws and geometric reflectors.ASNT Level-III should review all PAUT Reports. Report shall be submitted in hard (01 set) and Soft Copies to the Company. All the jobs must be carried out, as per tender document towards successful completion of the job. All the works have to be undertaken as per standard specifications and instructions & directions of Engineer-In-Charge.
46LRUT OF PIPELINE LRUT of pipeline ranging from 4 inch to 30 inch. LRUT is used to locate areas in metal pipes in which metal wall loss has occurred due to corrosion or erosion. LRUT utilizes ultrasonic guided waves, sent in the axial direction of the pipe, to non-destructively test pipes for defects or other features by detecting changes in the cross section and/or stiffness of the pipe. It does not provide a direct measurement of wall thickness, but is sensitive to a combination of the CSC and circumferential extent and axial extent of any metal loss. Based on this information, a classification of the severity can be assigned. The LRUT method provides a screening tool to quickly identify any discontinuity along the pipe. Where a possible defect is found, follow-up inspection of suspected areas with ultrasonic testing or other NDT methods is normally required to obtain detailed thickness information, nature, and extent of damage. It also provides some information on the axial length of a discontinuity, provided that the axial length is longer than roughly a quarter of the wavelength of the excitation signal. LRUT technique applies to pipes that are straight, constructed of a single pipe size and schedules, fully accessible at the test location, jointed by girth welds, supported by simple contact supports and free of internal, or external coatings, or both; the pipe may be insulated or painted. LRUT Inspection of line pipes at site shall include: 1. On-site LRUT inspection 2. Submission of brief daily report on site 3. Preparation of final reports with overall summary, photos and tables identifying the anomaly location, isometric drawings showing appropriate metal loss locations in standard reporting format. 4. Surface preparation including the removal of 3-LPE coating in sin the scope of contractor. LRUT Equipment shall have following capabilities: 1. LRUT Multi-Mode Flaw Detector with accessories. 2. Focusing capability to evaluate corrosion distribution around the pipe"s circumference. 3. Typical test range ±20mts in each direction from a single location for aboveground lines, ideal conditions can achieve more in a single inspection depending on the pipe layout, attachments, supports, product etc. 4. Proven capability on pipe in service from 0°C up to 100°C according to the LPG in service. 5. Reliable detection of min. 3% Cross section metal loss flaws. Level II as per ANSI/ASNT CP-189, SNT-TC-1A or similar having expertise in carrying out LRUT, Interpretation skill and minimum 3 years’ experience in inspection by LRUT / SRUT technique, however interpretation of test results shall be reviewed by ASNT UT Level-III having minimum 05 years of experience.
