Fishing Walk At The Borgen Mill In The Merkedam River (Sandefjord) . Description Background For The Assignment Label River In The Aulivassdraget Is An Anadromous Watercourse That Gives Salmon, Sea Trout And Ål The Opportunity To Wander Up To The Castle Mill. There, However, They Meet A Five Meter High Dam That Closes For Further Migration. Although A Mini Power Plant Has Previously Been Installed In The Dam, This Is Now Out Of Service. The Landowner, Vestfoldmøllene As, Has Considered That The Resumption Of Power Generation Is Not Economically Sustainable, And Is Therefore Open To Assess The Removal Of The Dam And Restoration Of The River Stretch. Previous Registrations Conducted By The Aulivassdraget Elvelag Showed Stable Figures Of Approx. 100 Spawning Fish Annually, With A Distribution Of Around 90 % Sea Trout And 10 % Salmon. Upstream Borgen Mill Exists Approximately 11.5 Km With Potential Spawning And Growing Areas For Anadromous Salmonids. Nature Manager Leif Simonsen Has Estimated A Potential Production Of Between 11,500 And 28,700 Fish Per Year, Of Which 800-2,000 May Be Salmon. The Estimate Is Based On A Fishing Density Of 40-100 Fish Per 100 M² And The Distribution Of Salmon/Sea Trout Registered Downstream (Simonsen, 2006). Upstream There Are Over 15,000 Mussels Over 8-10 Km, Indicating That Anadromous Fish Have Previously Been Able To Walk Past The Dam. Findings Of Young Mussels (40-50 Mm, About 10 Years Old) Show That Stationary Trout Today Acts As Host Fish (Sandaas And Enerud, 2009). Recovered Migration For Salmon And Sea Trout Can Strengthen The Recruitment At The River Mussel. Against This Background, Vestfoldmøllene As, Aulivassdraget Elvelag, Sandefjord Municipality And Water Area Cooperates The Aulivassdraget - In Consultation With The State Manager In Vestfold And Telemark - To Find Solutions To Recover Fishing. Measures That Can Restore The Possibility Of Migration Of Salmon Fish And Eel In The Merkedam River. The Project Consists Of Several Sub -Activities, Where Some Are Implemented By Other Players. The Condition Of The Dam Will Be Assessed By The Landowner (Vestfoldmøllene As) With Assistance From Sweco, In Accordance With The Dam Security Regulations. This Assessment Is Not Included In The Present Assignment, But Will Form An Important Basis For The Further Assessments To Be Carried Out. The Assignment In This Procurement Includes The Following: Mapping The Sediment Mass Mapping And Quantify The Extent Of The Sediment Collection Upstream Of The Dam And Describe Methods And Extent For Handling By Any Removal Of The Dam. Fish Passport Assesses Whether It Is Most Appropriate To Remove The Dam Or Establish A Fishing Passage, Based On The Results Of The Sediment Mapping And Assessment Of The Dams Condition. Plan For Fishing Migration Preparation A Plan To Enable Fishing Migration At Borgen Mill: If The Removal Of The Dam Is Chosen: Prepare Plan For Removal, Included. Selected: Update The Existing Salmon Staircase Plan Based On New Knowledge, Including Cost Estimates (See Appendix 4. Under Documents).
