In the event of Corona, the loss of the whole RF chain is unavoidable and this type ofdischarge can completely volatilize the RF chai. Therefore, a number of space missions have beenalready lost due to this effect. The destructive phenomena appears when, once in orbit, the RF component is not properly vented, the materials outgass excessively or in launchers and re-entry vehicles where there is a fast processof depressurization/pressurization. To address this, it is necessary to determine all the parameters playing a role in the development of the breakdown and its contribution in the amplitude of the discharge. Some of these parameters are the type of gas, the actual pressure, temperature, RF power and RF signal characteristics (CW, modulated, etc..). Further conditions will have to be addressed during the first phase of the investigation.Unfortunately, there is no standard reference document to be used when assessing or testing Corona breakdown. In fact, one of the main concerns within the scientific community is the lack of defined design and test margins. In order to generate such document, a list of parameters affecting Corona need to be addressed in an exhaustive activity which, includes not only analysis but also supporting testing. The activity also aims to determine empirically the margins to be applied (designand testing) to avoid this type of phenomena. The results of this activity shall be used to defineguidelines and best-practices to be included in future ECSS related document. Such document will be used during mission requirements definition to minimize the risk of failure due to RF corona breakdown. This activity encompasses the following tasks:- Analysis of the parameters affecting Corona such as pressure, type of gas, RF frequency, RF power, Signal characteristics, etc.- Determine the margins to be applied in design and testing- Manufacturing and Testing- Definition of the guidelines and best-practices to be included in future ECSS related document both for analysis and testing.Procurement Policy: C(2) = A relevant participation (in terms of quality and quantity) of non-primes (incl.
