Work Detail

Tenders are invited for Operationalizing the Nexus in the Water sector (Solarization) Conducting Research Paper on Operationalizing the Nexus in the Water Sector: Example of Solarization. Scope of work: The consultancy aims to develop a comprehensive research paper focusing on the operationalization of the nexus approach in the water sector, with solarization as a case study. The paper will assess the economic, environmental, and social benefits of transitioning water pumping stations from traditional power sources to solar energy. 1. Key Tasks Analyze the costs of the transition, including upfront costs and the cost of installation and maintenance. Examine the potential economic benefits, such as reduced energy costs, and the environmental benefits, such as reduced greenhouse gas emissions. Explore the social implications of solarization, including potential reductions in social tensions and improvements in public health. Discuss criteria for operationalizing the nexus approach, based on the solarization of pumping stations as reference, emphasizing integration, governance, and capacity building. The research paper must align with the Spanish Humanitarian Action Strategy, more concretely with two out of its six cross-cutting approaches, i.e. resilience and environment; as well as the Spanish Humanitarian Diplomacy Strategy, which in its first objective (preventing and solving conflicts), commits to promoting an integrated approach through the implementation of the Triple Nexus. It will provide a brief overview of the nexus approach, highlighting its importance in providing sustainable solutions to challenges related to access to water in Lebanon. 2.Objective of the Consultancy Provide a practical example of how humanitarian [RF1]actors can operationalize the nexus in the Water sector, bridging from emergency to recovery and longer term interventions. Identify clear criteria that can help define activities/projects that are aligned with the nexus approach. The study will be used to provide evidence on the relevance and appropriateness of the solarization activity, informing on the short and long-term impact of solarization for water pumping stations on access to water. Additionally, it will support the initiation of discussions on concrete criteria that can define the nexus approach, which will be disseminated through the humanitarian community in Lebanon (e.g. WASH sector, Lebanon Humanitarian INGO Forum, local WASH partners). It is expected that the results of the research will contribute the confirming the relevance of the nexus approach in the context of Lebanon. 3.Deliverables A detailed research paper outlining findings and recommendations. Presentation of key criteria for nexus-aligned activities/projects. Dissemination of research outcomes within the humanitarian community in Lebanon, including the WASH sector and local partners. 4.Consultant Requirements Action Against Hunger is looking for a consultant with the following qualifications and experience: At least 5 years of experience in research within the water, energy or environmental sectors. Knowledge of solar energy systems, particularly for water pumping stations. Previous work in Lebanon or similar humanitarian contexts is highly preferred. Familiarity with the economic, environmental, and social impacts of solarization projects in Lebanon. Experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative research, impact assessments, and data analysis. Tender Link : https://www.daleel-madani.org/calls-for-proposal
