Expression of Interest for Consulting Services for Developing the Waqf Governance Framework in Mauritania The institution intends to allocate part of the technical assistance to cover the costs of consulting services to be procured under this project. The project will also be co-financed by the National Waqf Institution of Mauritania. Mauritania recognizes the potential of Waqf in contributing to economic development, poverty alleviation, preservation of cultural heritage, social cohesion, and community empowerment. However, the country lacks the resources and expertise necessary to effectively develop and manage the Waqf sector. The objective of the grant is to revitalize the Waqf sector so it can play a leading role in inclusive social and economic development and to strengthen its governance framework in the country. Accordingly, there is an urgent need for consulting services to design a Waqf governance framework, with the ultimate goal of developing the Waqf sector in Mauritania byimplementing this governance framework and managing its institutions.
