The Unesco World Heritage Site In Essen Was An Active Coal Mining From 1851 To 1986, Is The Symbol Of The Ruhr Area, Monument To Industrial Culture And Symbol For The Change In The Once Largest Hard Coal Jug In The World Into An Attractive Location For Culture And Leisure, Education And Economy. Zollverein Now Stands For An Identity -Creating Culture Of Memory Of The Ruhr Area And At The Same Time For Future -Oriented Location Development. The Area Includes Around 100 Hectares. Since The Collapse Of The Colliery In 1986 And The Coking Plant In 1993, The Buildings And Facilities Have Been Gradually Renovated And Prepared For New Uses. The Buildings Are Used As A Museum, Exhibition And Event Halls, Depots, Offices And Studios. The Individual Buildings Must Meet Very Different Requirements, Which Includes The Use Of The So -Called Monument Path On The Coking Plant. In The So -Called Monument Path, The Lively History Of History Of The Once Largest Central Confectionery In Europe Is Encouraged. The Focus Is Not Only On The Production Processes Of A Coking Plant, But Also Under Which Conditions The Coker Worked And Lived.
