In May Of 2024, The Newly Redeveloped Ncc Opened For The First Time In The Vancouver Island Region, A 12-Bed Living Unit For Women Inmates. The Purpose Of The Unit Is To Provide Short Term Custody Of Women Offenders In Nanaimo Correctional Center’S Catchment Area. Nanaimo Correctional Centre Has A Close Working Relationship With Alouette Correctional Centre For Women As Both Centres Work Together To Provide Support And Care For Women Inmates In Our Custody.The Purpose Of This Service Contract Is Two-Fold. The First Objective Is To Assist Women Experiencing Mental Health And Health Related Issues By Improving Overall Health And Wellbeing. Providing Education On Healthy Eating And Implementing Exercise/Recreation Regimes To Help Improve Overall Physical Health. This Program Will Enhance The Resources And Services Provided To Individuals In Custody With Recreational Activities To Ensure Wellbeing. Specifically, For Those With Complex Needs, This Program Will Ensure A Plan Is In Place For Opportunity To Take Part In Supervised Physical And Mental Wellbeing Activities.The Second Objective Is To Provide Community Integration Services To Address The Urgent Support Needs Of Women In Custody For Short Term Stays. This Role Would Interlink With The Community To Identify And Develop Positive Social Supports Networks That Meet The Immediate Needs Of Women Offenders Prior To Their Release From Ncc.
