May 2025 Intervention Sector(s): Gender issues Remuneration range: 1000 to 2000 (USD) Duration of Contract: 9 and 12 months ABAAD is a non-profit, non-political, non-religious civil society organization that seeks to achieve gender equality as a fundamental condition for sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD promotes womens rights and participation through policy development, legal reform, gender mainstreaming, engaging men and boys, eliminating discrimination, and empowering women to fully and effectively participate in their communities. ABAAD also works to support and collaborate with civil society organizations involved in gender equality programming and advocacy initiatives. ABAAD maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA). Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is a collective responsibility. All staff are required to adhere to the organizations Code of Conduct, which upholds the principles of PSEA at all times, both during and outside of working hours. Familiarization with, and strict adherence to, the Code of Conduct is mandatory, alongside the completion of related training. All staff must ensure they understand, internalize, and act in full accordance with this commitment. Given that ABAAD is implementing programs across different regions in Lebanon, we are currently recruiting specialized professionals to deliver a range of social work, prevention, response, and community-based activities within these projects. Position Title: Psychologist Reports to: Senior Technical Response Lead Duty Station: South, Mount Lebanon, North, Bekaa Position Type: Consultancy POSITION DESCRIPTION: The psychologist will provide structured mental health and counselling services for individuals in ABAAD Safe Spaces, in line with ABAADs approach and standards. The psychologist will provide mental health and counselling services to individuals accessing ABAADs Safe Spaces. These include: Women and adolescent girls who are survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), such as sexual assault, domestic violence, and early or forced marriage. Men with anger regulation difficulties, some of whom may display violent or abusive behaviors in intimate relationships or family settings. Individuals experiencing psychological distress due to trauma, displacement, economic hardship, or social marginalization. Family members who may require psychoeducation and support to foster non-violent, supportive home environments. Couples and families receiving therapy to build non-violent, supportive home environments. The psychologist is expected to work with complex, high-risk cases, often in crisis situations, and to provide trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and culturally sensitive support in line with ABAADs standards. REPORTS TO: ABAAD Senior technical Response Lead TASKS: Individual Psychotherapy and Counseling: Work within a multidisciplinary team in the designated safe centers in South Lebanon, Beirut and mount Lebanon, North and Beqaa. Administer and interpret psychological tests, interviews, and behavioral assessments to evaluate individuals mental health and cognitive functioning. Design and implement tailored intervention and treatment strategies based on individuals needs, diagnosis, and evidence-based practices. Track and document individuals responses to interventions and adjust treatment plans accordingly to ensure effective care. Provide immediate psychological support in emergency or high-stress situations, including trauma, grief, or acute mental health crises Conduct screening and assessment of beneficiaries and develop individualized treatment and rehabilitation plans. Provide psychological support and counseling to beneficiaries and their families using systemic, analytic, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approaches, depending on the beneficiarys profile and specific needs. Plan and implement daily, weekly, and monthly interventions and maintain clear documentation of session content and follow-up. Caseload Standards and Flexibility Implement a structured plan of 12 individual psychological sessions for men, focused on anger management, emotional regulation, and behavior change, with flexibility based on the progress of each case. Provide 6 individual sessions for women, in parallel with the case management process. These sessions should be coordinated closely with the caseworker and integrated within the overall care plan. In line with international best practices, psychologists are expected to maintain a caseload of approximately 18 to 25 active cases, with flexibility depending on case complexity, vulnerability factors, and programmatic conditions. Given the dynamic nature of humanitarian and community-based work, caseloads may be adjusted in consultation with supervisors to uphold the principles of duty of care, clinical ethics, and service quality. The organization is committed to ensuring that workload expectations are sustainable, realistic, and responsive to both client and practitioner needs. Group Psychological Sessions and Support Activities Provide family support when needed. Facilitate group therapy and support group sessions in coordination with the multidisciplinary team. Attend and contribute to case conferences and supervision meetings. Coordinate effectively with case workers and other team members for integrated case management. Support the team in implementing activities under the work plan. Maintaining Records and Reporting Ensure complete, updated, and confidential documentation of all beneficiary information, follow-up, and referrals. Submit a monthly report including session statistics, attendance, meetings, support and training sessions, challenges, approaches used, and any technical needs or positive experiences. Ensure all relevant forms and formats are updated and data security is maintained. Other Conduct workshops, training, and awareness sessions for staff, clients, or communities on mental health topics and coping strategies. Adhere strictly to professional codes of ethics, institutional policies, and confidentiality standards. SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES: Bachelors or Masters degree in Clinical Psychology with registration in the Order of Psychologists. Minimum 35 years of relevant field experience. Good knowledge of National CP and GBV SOPs and Minimum Standards. Strong time and stress management skills. Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines. Leadership, problem-solving, and negotiation capabilities. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Capacity to take initiative and attention to detail. Flexibility and ability to respond to crisis and emergency situations. Demonstrated accountability and structured workload planning. Fluent in Arabic and English (written and spoken); French is a plus. Committed to ABAADs Code of Conduct and PSEA Policy.
