The Purpose Of This Project Is To Procure Materials And Services For The Design And Installation Of A Cathodic Protection System At The St. Mary Spillway. The Provided Cathodic Protection System Will Provide Protection From Corrosive Forces For Various Metal Components Of The St. Mary Spillway. The Component Requiring Cathodic Protection Are Mainly Comprised Of Four (4) Large Metal Radial Gates, Complete With Associated Cables, Connections, Arms And Trunnions, But An Assessment Of All Metal Components Of The Spillway Is Required, Especially Those Components That Come Into Seasonal Contact With Water.Project Backgroundthe St. Mary Dam Is Located Near Spring Coulee, Alberta. The Current Spillway At The St. Mary Dam Was Constructed Between 1998 And 2000 And Consists Of A Concrete Headworks And Chute With Four Metal Radial Gates. Corrosion Was Identified As A Cause Of Gate Hoist Cable Failure In The Spring Of 2018 That Prompted Replacement Of All Gate Hoist Cables. Subsequent Corrosion Inspections Have Identified A Need For Cathodic Protection To Limit Corrosive Action On Metal Components.Project Objectivesthis Project Should: A.Determine And Confirm The Extent Of Metal Components On The St. Mary Spillway That Are Susceptible To Corrosive Action; B.Determine The Best Method To Introduce Cathodic Protection To Protect These Components;C.Provide Design Of A Cathodic Protection System;D.Provide Materials And Services To Install The Specified Cathodic Protection System.Project Structure/Business Modelworking With The Site Team Lead Of The Dam Structure, The Project Manager Will Direct The Contractor From The Regional Office In Lethbridge.Key Stakeholdersthe St. Mary Dam Is Owned By The Province Of Alberta. Alberta Agriculture & Irrigation Water Infrastructure And Operations Branch Is Responsible For The Safe Operation Of This Dam. Related Project Documentsdrawings, Specifications And Previous Corrosion Reports For The Site Are Available Through The Water Infrastructure And Operations Branch Library And Will Be Made Available To The Successful Proponent.
