Open Date: 29/04/2025 10:44 CET Closing Date: 29/08/2025 13:00 CET Price Range: 500 KEURO Objective: Development of a cloud-based system for pre- and post-processing of standard 5G NR signals in a satcom environment.Targeted Improvements: Enable signal processing hosted on a cloud service.Description: Multiple start-up operators, often backed by cellular network operators, have proposed direct-to-handheld services using standard terrestrial mobile phone terminals and sophisticated gateway-side signal processing, to allow the use of existing terrestrial protocols over a satellite link and interoperability with terminals in a terrestrial band. For a global system, where traffic demands vary over the course of 24 hours, deployment of expensive compute resource to cover peak demands in each region mean systems will not be fully utilised all of the day. This activity shall analyse traffic demands, building on existing work that has developed models for signal processing of 5G NR in satellite networks.It shall then develop a concept of cloud-based signal processing, sizing the system for peak demand and evaluate the system performance. A testbed shall be developed to carry the testing and evaluation of the selected cloud-based signal processing concept.
