Work Detail
Tenders are invited for Gateway Simulators for Training and Operations. Open Date: 30/01/2025 12:00 CET Closing Date: 14/03/2025 13:00 CET Price Range: 500 KEURO ESA provides three main contributions to the Gateway: HLCS, I-HAB, and ERM. In addition, payloads and medical systems are under preparation. The training of Astronaut crews and flight controllers require the use of SW simulators to familiarize trainees with the data stream available for the supervision of the spacecraftsystems as well as the payloads and medical systems. They will also be accepting commands through the on-board and ground interfaces to provide the expected vehicle responses. The simulators will be used in standalone simulations serving individual trainees or groups of trainees in Europe as well as wider simulation scenarios involving, e.g. NASA, CSA or JAXA, in combination with other simulators for their contributions. It is highly important to be able to expose all trainees to the nominal behavior of the systems as well as the data signatures of anomalies, failures, and emergency cases. The simulators will be used to support the development of command sequences and procedures duringthe initial preparation of operations as well as for upgrading these products throughout the lifetime of the Gateway. In addition, testing and verification of Gateway level requirements in NASA laboratories as well as the validation of interfaces with other Gateway modules require a physics-based simulation to achieve a representative interface emulation to be used during thedevelopment of the Gateway modules. This cannot be fulfilled by the already procured means and will be also covered by the simulators procured under this activity. To achieve this, the simulators will need to run the original flight SW while emulating the onboard computer HW and providing a dynamic simulation of the physical behavior of the other onboard systems. The simulators will need to be capable of interfacing with a widersimulation environment to be established by NASA, based on the High-Level Architecture (HLA) simulation environment. To avoid problems encountered in the ISS Program, no flight HW shall be included into thesimulators. However, for test and validation purposes, the flight SW will also be run on flight equivalent processing units with the remainder of the system to be simulated, Hence, the simulation models to be developed will have to support also HW in the loop configurations using dedicated Input/Output host units. The overall design willenable efficient long-term maintainability. The computer HW used will consist of standard commercial servers with the option to upgrade easily to future changes. The simulators will allow the upgrade of the flight SW versions as it matures. Toenable efficient useof the simulators, these will be able to generate "snapshot" breakpoints of system statuses, run in accelerated mode, etc. The simulators will reflect all internal and external interfaces, the physical behavior of the individual components, the system functional performance and all known failure modes. The simulators will have an open, generic interface to add payloads and medical systems simulations at a later point in time. A demo payload and medical system will be part of this activity. While the simulators will be required in sequence, depending on the launch of the respective components, it is efficient to procure the simulators as a single procurement from a singleprovider or consortium to ensure commonality of design and operations and to use all synergies throughout the life cycle. Since the simulators will be used for verification purposes, they will have to undergo a verification campaign correlating the simulationresults with test results originating from system and subsystem tests.
