Work Detail
Request for proposals for E3CX-024 Deep Space Habitat Simulator Study - EXPRO+. The study work will define and assess the needs and requirements of a human crewed deep space habitat ground simulator. The study will specifically look at the following key challenges:1. System Aspects: The habitat design requires a multidisciplinary approach to address human presence, self-sufficiency, time delays, and airtightness. Long-term robust performance and subsystem interdependency, especially in failure scenarios, are critical. MBSE and AI solutions will be used to simulate, evaluate, and select appropriate systems and architecture before developing flight hardware for test on LEO platforms or on Gateway.2. Life Support and Food: Deep space missions need closed-loop, regenerative life support systems for oxygen, water, and food with limited, or even without, resupply. Challenges include water and nitrogen recovery from urine, oxygen regeneration from CO2, and fresh food production. Existing projects (e.g., ANITA, ACLS, MELiSSA) will serve as input to this study. 3. Medical and Psychological Support: Develop an "astronaut 2.0"digital twin for healthmonitoring and autonomy, incorporating new diagnostic tools and AI-assisted telemedicine.4. Isolation impacts team performance and well-being. Addressing hygiene, microbial risks, clothing, and entertainment through innovative materials and virtual/augmented reality will enhance crew comfort and mission success. 5. Resources management: Maximise waste recycling and transformation through circular approaches. Identify innovative methods to repurpose traditionally disposed end products, such as clothing and packaging. Maximise waste recycling andtransformation through circular approaches. Identify innovative methods to repurpose traditionally disposed end products, such as clothing and packaging.6. Operations and maintenance: evaluate and propose a paradigm change towards reduced dependency from ground control, anticipate system failure scenarios anddevelop troubleshooting procedures using AI and digital twin spacecraft. Identify predictive and flexible maintenance methodologies through MBSE at the subsystem level. Develop reconfiguration strategies at the system level. 7. Communications: Address communication delays with ground support for deep space missions. Mitigate the impact of delayed communication on IVA and potential EVA or human/robotic activities. Develop Earth-independent medical operations support to ensure mission autonomy. Experience from existing facilities will be considered as precursors:- Concordia station,- MELiSSA Pilot Plant,- Isolation and Confinement studies (MARS500, SIRIUS, HERA),- Spaceships (EAC, FR and ECSAT),- XR LAb, etc. Read less Tender Link : https://esastar-publication-ext.sso.esa.int/ESATenderActions/filter/open
