It has a budget of 906,691 and will run for 31 months, from May 2024 to November 2026. The aim of this project is to build the capacity of the public media in the Indo-Pacific region, an area particularly exposed to environmental and climate issues. The countries involved in this project are Indonesia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, East Timor and Fiji. The Asia Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) is a regional intergovernmental organisation that works to support and promote media development, and is CFIs main partner for the Terra Asia project. The AIBD plays a key role in influencing the regions media decision-makers. At the 2023 annual conference, which brought together all the media members of the organisation, there was a strong emphasis on environmental issues and the fight against mis- and disinformation. At the same time, Terra Asia is aligning its objectives with Frances strategies in the Indo-Pacific region, focusing on building the capacity of public media to address crucial issues such as climate change, biodiversity and sustainable ocean management. This initiative comes against a backdrop of growing recognition of the strategic importance of the Indo-Pacific, highlighted by high-level visits including the visit by the President of the French Republic to Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu in 2023.
