Watercare has been installing Smart meters since 2022 and to date, Watercare has one of the largest rollouts in Australasia. From financial year 2026 Watercare is looking at how it can accelerate this progress to have the entire region complete within 3-5 years. Watercare in common with all water providers in New Zealand has challenges with the funding of its capital program and is looking for models that bring partnership and efficiency to the delivery of this project. We seek to gather information from industry professionals regarding innovative approaches to water meter reading, maintenance, and data services, with the potential to incorporate new partnership models. Our goal is to explore a variety of partnership-based models for water metering, including the traditional design bid build model. This Request for Information (RFI) aims to gather insights, capabilities, and proposals that align with Watercares objectives for operational efficiency, data security, regulatory compliance, and adaptability within a smart infrastructure ecosystem.
